Tiara Girls

I love watching beauty pageants ever since i was young and i always wondered one thing. Were the girls assessed by their looks or by their brains? and which is more important?. Most of the girls in Miss World and Miss Universe are gorgeous and their answers for the Q and A are always reasonably good too. However to what extent do you think beauty should be assessed?

Many say beauty is skin deep and what matters more is the heart. True, but why then are pageants becoming increasingly popular amongst everyone? I think, its because we too have become obsessed with good looks, with the media majorly influencing us.

Taking pains to look good is on the different track from feeling good. Going under the knife to look good for instance, is for making yourself feel better, like consoling yourself due to your inferiority complex, while treating yourself to feel good, gives you the self confidence that every woman needs, even if it means applying a little more make-up than you actually need. Watching the local pageants, made me ponder as to why some girls joined. Did they join because the think they look good or because they feel good about themselves? Mind you feeling good about yourself could also be due to some compliments, false ones sometimes, someone would have said to them, like boyfriends who are obliged to do so. OK, that's about the looks factor.

Lets move on to the Q and A segment. Some the girls in the pageant i saw, gave answers which did not even make sense. I think they didn't understand the question or maybe they were nervous. They fail to realize that joining the pageant is to not about showing off your 'looks', but to represent a confident, vibrant young woman, who is also beautiful, of course. Many lacked these qualities. Some appeared to me as the success stories of ugly ducklings, not ugly literally though. This was probably because most were amateurs.

Well, i am not against these pageants, but however, i think there should be a specific calibre of ladies taking part, to at least meet the benchmark of the professional ones who have taken part before. However, i appreciate the fortitude that these girls possess to join these pageants. Believing in yourself is probably the best outcome from these pageants, not unless another swan- wannabe decides to steal your answer in Q and A and eventually wins.
