Emotions VS Rationality

Whenever we need to make a decision, it comes down to whether we are using our heads or our hearts to make a decision. At times though we are given the benefit to use both. Decision -making is said to be a very crucial aspect in every one's lives. Many a time we are put in a compromising situation where there is no one single best solution. In times like this, are rational or radical decisions preferred? Not to forget about our emotions which can highly influence our decisions.

As what a love poet might preach, using your heart to make a decision is usually more applicable to matters of the heart. However is our rationality pushed to the backseat in this decision-making? Using our emotions to make a decision is these matters are much favoured by many of us as it saves the trouble of heartaches. These decisions may not always be the rational decisions though. I think that in years to come, these heart induced decisions may not be liable anymore, but we would choose not to acknowledge it as this what we would want to believe in. This may be applicable to other decision-making too.

For example, we see a nice pair of shoes which we adore, but the price is sky-rocketing and so is beyond our budget, what do you do?.
  1. You cant stop thinking about it so you decide to buy it( heart-induced decisions)?
  2. Or you realize that you need the cash for something that you need, not want and so decide to go against your temptation( rational decisions)?
Well, this dilemma sure is common among many of us, but i guess different people make different choices.

Using our emotions would make it seem easier to make up our minds, but making a reasoning decision would be more sensible. Sometimes, decisions making using our hearts may not have been made with a clear or sound state of mind and would probably lead to serious repercussions full of regret. This reminds me one of Jane Austen's novel ,' Sense And Sensibility'.

I think that making a decision according to the situation, using both our hearts and heads, but mainly the latter would be the ideal. However i don't think i practise what i preach sometimes, so lets see......
